For the most part, Facebook for me began as a means to spy on my friends. One morning, I noticed on the OPL group that someone had posted a question about getting a job at the library. I answered it and figured that this is just another method for our patrons to get in touch with us....

RSS Feeds,

For me, RSS has been a huge time saver. I like being able to go to one place and checking new information from several websites. My feeds include mostly news and technology websites.

Lifelong Learning from PLCMC's 7.5 habits of highly successful learners


I have to say that the easiest habit for me is using technology to my advantage. I personally love to test and learn new technologies as they are introduced.

The most difficult for me would probably be beginning with the end in mind. I do sometimes start projects with no real goal on what I would do with it....

Canada Year Book Historical Collection

Statistics Canada has digitized and posted the first 100 years of the Canada Year Book. This provides an abundance of statistics on Canada including population, economy, maps, education, ethnic diversity, and much more. You will find this resource on the Statistics website here.

Don't forget that the Canadian Periodical Index offers full text French publications too. You can browse the titles by clicking on "Publication Search", then click on "Browse Publication Language", and finally click on "French".


In case you haven't visited BREF lately, they have a new interface. They provide a list of new resources they’ve added, and include a RSS feed. Provided by the Bibliothèque et Archives nationales du QuĂ©bec, this site provides a directory of web resources. They focus primarily on French websites, but do list English ones too. Check out this great resource here.
