Database Tip!

Eureka is back! We lost access to this a few months ago but we were able to get it again through Knowledge Ontario. This database provides us with full text articles from La Presse, Le Droit, Protégez-Vous and L'Actualite. It also offers access to smaller English newspapers such as the Cornwall Standard-Freeholder and the Pembroke Daily Observer. Check it out with our other databases here:

Prizes!!

So the OPL version of Learning 2.0 is coming to an end. I hope that you all decide to continue blogging after this week. I've thoroughly enjoyed reading your posts.

So where do we go from here? I can see a follow-up workshop at some point. There will always be the next new "thing". Really, this is a workshop that has no end. Because Learning 2.0 is a wiki, don't forget that you can always add or edit content in the future if something changes.

Right now, I'm checking out Twitter. (I'm still waiting for my first "follower" :-).

I'm trying to add some comments to your blogs, but it seems to not let you add the "verification word". This is a bit annoying.

Back from vacation!

In case you were wondering why I didn't post anything last week, I was in the Caribbean (poor me...). Anyways, I'll be on Meebo all this week to help anybody with the exercises.

Week 6

So this week we're looking at Facebook. I have had an account for a few years now, and I've enjoyed hearing from old friends and acquaintances. I'm not very good at the regular updates part of it. I think I update my status twice a year. Soon I'll be simply putting.."Matt is still alive", or something similar. Nevertheless, for many of my friends and colleagues, I always get a response from them much quicker if I use Facebook compared to email.

Oh Meebome, why won't you work properly? Last week, it was completely dead, and this week it's showing me as offline, even though I'm not. Definitely room for improvement regarding this application...

We're now into week 5 of 8 of Learning 2.0 at OPL. This week we're looking at Delicious. I appreciate having my bookmarks available no matter which computer I'm on. I mostly use Delicious through my iGoogle Page. With the Delicious gadget in iGoogle, you can limit which tags you wish to appear in it. I have one widget with my library tagged bookmarks and one with my tech bookmarks.

If there were ever a followup to this workshop, I would include iGoogle as one of the workshops. (I'd also try to find more money for bigger and better prizes too!)

Learning 2.0 - week 3

This should be a fun week for everybody! Hope you have some time to go through some of your colleagues' blogs to see what they're blogging about.

Lifelong Learning.

When it comes to computers and the Internet, there is always something new and trendy that everyone wants to participate in. I remember a few years back, my friends were all setting up MySpace accounts. Now, they all use Facebook. One day in the future, I'm sure they will decide that something else is better (maybe Twitter?). Whatever it is, I'm one who truly enjoys keeping up with trends in the digital world, and I will probably follow suit. This way, I can also pass along what I've learned to others. What I need to do now is demonstrate lifelong learning in other facets of my life!

Week 2 is upon us. I hope everybody is enjoying the Lifelong Learning presentation.

BTW, Great job on your blogs! I can't wait to read all of them (when you add them to the wiki in week 3).

Well, we're through week 1. I have to say that I'm really happy with how many of you decided to take part in this workshop. This is the perfect workshop to have during a bus strike!
